I dont know if anyone can help me but I had to have my muched loved Sheba (GSD) put to sleep yesterday, she was 13 and a half years old, her back legs were going and she was incontinent, I know I did the right thing for her, but it hasn't made it any easier for me. I had a dog before who was 15 and a cat who was 17 and was very upset to lose them but with Sheba it is different, we had a very special bond, she was very much a part of me. My husband cant understand he says she was only a dog and that I should get over it (he lost his father three weeks ago so I can understand how he feels). Can anyone advise me on what I can do to help me cope with my loss please. Thanks

I am so sorry to hear of both you and your Husbands loss, what a very sad time for you both. Time is a great healer, I know that sounds corny and believe me it is not meant that way.dont bottle everything up, you must talk to each other, and there is no shame in sheading the odd tear or two, I know I did when I lost my old friend nearly three years ago now. You will feel better and the good time that you shared will bring a smile to your face, I know you probably dont feel like smiling right now but keep your chin up and think of the good times you shared. My thoughts are with you. Sarah :)

So sorry guest.
Only time will help you cope , Another puppy as soon as possible may help you.
I dont know what else to say as words are not enough to help you cope with grief.
love Marie

I'm sorry to hear of your loss. Your husband is probably trying to cope with his own loss which is why he has reacted the way he has. In different circumstances he may have reacted differently.

In 1999 I lost my Mum & one of our dogs(with her 6 pups) within 8 weeks of each other, also I have recently PTS my wonderful Poppy who was 12 years old - my best advise is - take time to grieve - and don't feel guilty about grieving.

My thoughts are with you.

So Sorry to hear about your loss, guest..
Most of us have been there, and we know how you feel.........and these things always seem to come on top of each other, don't they?
Take care
Thinking of you..
Sami

PS for sweep......I'm was sorry to read about your Poppy....I was wondering how you were getting on, as my Cherry has leukemia, and is over 13......I will soon be faced with the same decision as you and your husband had to make.
Take care too...

I found this little book a great help when i lost my guys.

"Absent Friend" by Laura Lee available from www.crosskeysbooks.com

I also found making up a photo album enabled me to shed many tears and to work my way through some of my immediate grief.

Take care, hth a little
