Topic Dog Boards / Health / gunky eyes?

ever since we've had my pup (10 weeks now) he's had some sort of discharge from his eyes. nothing major, just kind of a worse version of what you see in many dogs - but enough for me not to think it's normal.

it's an off-yellow colour, almost like the 'sleep' we get in the mornings (and that's when it's worst), but sticky. when he was 12 weeks the vet apparently gave him some eyedrops, but they didn't help (I say apparently because I was on holiday at the time and my dad took him in for his 2nd vacc).

any ideas what this might be? it doesn't bother him at all, his eyes are otherwise perfect.

I would take him back to the vet, it could be a low grade infection and if left could cause damage. In the meantime you could try bathing his eyes with cold tea (no milk or sugar :) ) its very soothing.

My pup had this Nikita - no redness in his eyes at all, but quite a bit of yellow/green discharge (sleep) in his eyes every morning. I took him to the vet and it turned out to be conjunctivitis. We've been using an eye ointment every day for about a month now. It's actually been really hard to get rid of - keeps returning, but that's another story! I would definitely take him to the vet.
