hi, i have a bitch who had a litte of 8, but sadly 4 were still born. I stayed up all night with her while she was giving birth and all went to plan, well so i thought. The first four pups came within 45mins of eachother strong and healthy. Then the bitch stopped straining and seemed to rest with her 4 babies. I rang the vets and they said to bring her in the morning as all seemed well and no emergency. I assumed she had given birth to all of her babies after 4 hours of producing no more, but when i woke in the morning there were 4 more and were still born./ I feel so terrible and devestated. I honestly thought she had given birth to all of them, after her 4th pup she seemed happy enough, just tired which is expected, even the vets said over the phone that any more pups were unlikely. So my question is, how do you know when your bitch has given birth to all the puppies? how do you know if theres anymore to come???? Pls help!!! Many thanks, MARIA.X

The only way is to speak to your vet now. I almost lost a whole litter due to the 2nd pup being stuck across the birth canal. She had to have an emergency section to save the pups. 1 had been born at home, stillborn. She had another 12 at the vets, 3 of those were stillborn. Please contact your vet for advice.

Sorry to hear your bitch had a rough time but you really should know what you are doing before you breed and get your self a better vet Jackie
