We have a Staffy pup with a cat . The cat was a stray that we rehomed before we got pup .
Although they will never be *best mates* ( pup is way too energetic for Noodle the cat) they will tolerate each other ;)
Make sure pup knows from the very start what behaviour is acceptable and what isnt and always be consistant and keep an eye on them . I would never leave them in the same room together *just in case* but so far we have had no scraps . Gus is now 9 months and he will sometimes pretend to chase her - by pretend I mean he makes as though to give chase and she runs but he makes no effort to catch her . I think Gus would dearly love to play with Noodle but obviously he cant .
Your cat may stay out of the way for a while when you bring pup home but she/he will eventually come around . When we brought pup home we left him in a little crate and let the cat sniff around him . She originnaly didnt like him but after a while was accepting, so after my long ramble - in answer to your question YES!!! they can live together . :D
Hope that helps

I have ISBTs and 2 cats. They love each other and share food bowls and beds no problem. I have also had staffs and APBTs with cats without any problems. I dont leave them together at night when Im in bed or when Im out. A rescue dog may not get on with cats as it may think its okay to attack cats due to its previous owners. On the other hand I have rescued staffs in the past and they have got on fine with my cats for the short time I have had them.

my parents have a tiny little cat who was brought up with jack russells. When the JR died they got a 4 year old staff who was a rescue dog and very big boned. They were kept apart for a week until one day when we thought the cat was out, he wasnt and they met at the top of the stairs!!! Spindles went flying and the staff ran down stairs with its tail between its legs! The next dog was another big staff pup and they are great friends even though the cat terrorizes the poor dog even jumping on to the dogs back and chasing other dogs off the front of the house.
