Topic Dog Boards / Health / Anti Inflammatories - Advice!

Hi, my 8 year old GSD has been on PLT for about two weeks now, for arthritis. Since she started them, she has fouled four times in the house and other places other than outside (including my car!) This is very out of character and she has never done this since she was a pup - she has always been very clean. The times of her walks have not changed.

My vet says this is probably nothing to do with the tablets and more likely a progression of her illness (she has CDRM as well) i.e. incontinence. On this one though, I don't agree with him because its not happening all the time and at the moment her walking is pretty good. She is wobbly on her legs but still uses both of them when out on walks etc, and she was diagnosed a year ago. This week for example, she was fine all week until she fouled on Wednesday, then was fine again til today. None of the stools have been loose, they are normal apart from the fact she can't seem to hold on.

I just wondered if anyone else had had similar problems with anti inflammatories because sometimes it feels my vet pins anything about my dog on CDRM (at one point we thought she had been misdiagnosed, but that's another long story!)

Thanks in advance.

Hi
I think if it were the tablets she WOULD be doing it all the time. CDRM is a progressive disease but often they have good spells and bad spells which could account for the inconsistent messing. PLT is generally a last resort drug and ia a strong one, have you tried others first?
Dawn.
