I have read that giving a pup to much protein can make them very hypa, could this be the case with my ESS or is it just that he's very lively. We feed him on Autarky spring and hes on the go all the time infact he does not stop, the other are fed on autarky summer and they are fine, they are also Springers.
I know that the food has 28%protein could this be to much.

I use Autarky but changed my pup into summer at about 5 months to reduce the protien.
However ESS can be hyper anyway so it may be a case of thats the way your pup is

Hi,
He is now 9 months, I have 4 other springers 2 x 2yr olds and 2 x 1yr olds and they are nothing like him.
He is on the go all the time infact its really hard to get him to lay down, I wondered if it was anything to do with the food as 28% protein does seem quite high, I plan to change him onto adult soon so may bring it forward and see if it makes any difference.
Maybe he is just going to live up to the springer name.
Hi Sandie,
Our dog is quite a hyper dog, and was on 22% protein, but we really noticed the difference when he changed to a diet with 26% - he was definitely extra hyper! So it was back to the diet with 22% for a while, but have now changed his diet completely to Naturediet, and though he's still lively, that extra edge of hyper seems to have gone! I have heard it's not always the protein that makes them hyper, but could be additives in the food.

HI, I would think you could change over to adult now slowly - half present food/half lower protein for a few weeks. I would think 22-24% may be worth a try - but you may have to feed it for several weeks before you see a difference - but it may not change her energy levels anyway. Burns is a good food to try, lower protein but high quality and wholesome.
