Topic Dog Boards / Feeding / What age for adult food?
- By Louisebarnes [gb] Date 25.07.03 08:05 UTC
Hello,

My 9½mth mini schnauzer has done most of his growing I think,
and is about ½kilo too heavy (according to my vet) and so
someone has suggested moving over to adult food.

Can I do this or is he too young, as I thought I needed to keep
him on puppy food until he reached 18mths old and I don't want him
to miss out on any vital nutrients.

I would love some advise on this matter.

Thanks, Louise

Hi there,
I switched Murph (lab) over to adult food at almost 8 months because he's a tendency to be big and I wanted the lower protein as he's got panosteitis.
he's doing fine on it. I don't think it would hurt your little one either but I'm sure someone with more expertese than me will be along to help you.

TTFN

I would have thought he was too old for puppy food now. I don't think junior/adult food will do him any harm at all. Mini Schnauzers have got hearty appetites haven't they? You have to be quite strict about their diet, because they really put on weight if you're not careful. They're so greedy!

Thanks Nicola/Ruth

You have out my mind at rest, I think I will look at getting
the adult food next week then (and its a bit cheaper ha ha :-)
