I want to put Darcy on a better quality dog food as she is currently only on Pedigree Chum meat and complete mixed.

She is only 8 months old but is on adult food already because she is already prone to weight gain (she is very very greedy)

What would people recommend

I would like to say price is not an issue but obviously there are limitations

I think if I had only one dog I would go for either fresh meat and mixer, or Burns. Darcy's a chocolate, isn't she? They always seem to be chunkier than any other colour, with the blacks being the leanest.

chunky isnt quite the word?????

her mum and dad were both chunky but she seems to be taking it to all new extremes :D

will try the burns then I think.
I have heard lots of good things about it

How do I go about swapping her over to something like that

So you don't think she takes after her namesake (Ms Bussell) then? You're not getting her fitted for a tutu? ;) :D

The best way to change from one complete food to another is to give 3/4 of the first food mixed with 1/4 of the new food for a few days, then change it to half-and-half for another few days, then 3/4 of the new and 1/4 of the old till you run out of the old!

To get the quantities right, weigh out a day's ration of each food and divide those into the correct proportions of each - you usually find that different foods need to be given in different amounts. If the packet says (say) 250g - 300g for a labrador, I would start by giving the 250g, not the upper end of the scale.

Hope that isn't as clear as mud - I know what I mean!

Hi Rachael,

I've jsut changed Murph over to Naturediet and Burns.
He was getting rather heavy...he's a lab you may remember. I was Barfing him but he was just growing way to fast. he's slowed right down now and is looking good,
Burns is a good food as is Naturediet

Yes, I'd recommend Burns as well. I'm very happy with Dr Johns Gold for my chocolate Labrador, though she is nearly fully grown at 15 months. You would need to add a little meat to it I think as its only 20% protein and 8% fats. Spin has been on this diet for about 4 or 5 weeks now and her condition keeps on improving-she's gleaming now. I can feed her more volume of Dr Johns than some other foods which keeps her happy. I was concerned at first because its sooo cheap, thinking it couldn't be any good at that price, but after being heavily recommended to use it I have, and am very pleased with the results.
