Hi Everyone,
I am very new to this as you will all be able to tell, lol, but just wondered if anyone could offer any help/info about showing boxers and how to get into it.
Thanks in advance,
Louise.

Your breeder should be your number one help with regard to info etc .
We popped along to a few shows without pup just to get the feel of what happened and what was involved at shows . When pup had his last injections we got him to Ringcraft/Handling classes where you will learn how to stand him and how to position him and walk him in the ring . You will also get lots of advice from the more experienced showers there. We are only new o showing too ( and just qualified for Crufts !!) :D So it can be done
Do you have your pup already or are you looking around for one ?

Hi Lel,
Thanks for that :) Didn't think anyone was going to answer.
Congratulations on Crufts. What breed of dog/dogs do you own?
I allready own two boxers, Bruce, 18months and Lucie, 16months but both were got as just family pets, I would love to buy a puppy that maybe I could get into showing with. I have been in touch with a boxer breeder with a litter due sept, who also shows and have had a little advice from her. Should you take your pup to ringcraft as soon as you can? I will take your advice and go along to a few shows first. Anymore advice you could offer would be appreciated.
Thanks again,
Louise.

where in the country are you, the champ shows would be the best for you to see, plus youd see which kennels dogs you prefer, you also need to take target practice, as boxer folk throw lumps of liver at the opposition :D its a boxer tradition,

There is a Boxer Championship show this Sunday at the Tomlinson's centre in Markfield, Leics.
Should have a reasonable entry of dogs for you to see, as it's the parent club's show.
Next breed Ch show is 4th October at Newark and Notts showground (Trent Boxer Club)

Not everyone throws liver/sausage/cheese at the opposition nor leaves it on the floor,
I for one do not, although I do 'bait' on some occasions, I don't throw the bait for my dog causes too much
havoc for all the others around you and it's annoying for me when my dogs hoovers the floor too
:D Plus I'm not very good at target practise and hitting the opposition...well I'd probably end up with
the bullseye without meaning to.....the judge in the other ring :D

It's a good idea if you can train your dog to show without the need for bait, but it is hard especially
with pups when all around you are baiting. The least you have to do it the better really.

Hi Louise
yes, you can take pup as soon as he is able to go out . They then get used to all the fuss , the other dogs and to being handled .
We were told to get people who visit the house to gently *go over* pup ie being touched all over an try to get people to look at his teeth/mouth in a gentle manner as some dogs dont like their teeth being looked at . Obviously make sure anyone doing this has clean hands !!!!
Good luck
Lel
