I have a bitch who has been mated twice before with no success. Both times resulted in an untied mating(2 atempts each time) resulting in no pups.I used a different sire the second time just incase .I would like to give her another try this time round .Is there anything I can do to ensure a successful tie this time..She is 3 and a half years old

Did you get her swabbed and blood tested prior to mating ? Sounds like you may have got the timing a bit wrong and the bitch was not just ready. Are both previous dogs proven sires ? I suppose like humans not all bitches can pups. Anybody else got any more ideas ?
Margaret
She was swabbed the last 2 matings but hasn't been yet this time as shes only just come in.
Yes both the sires I used are proven. One I have used on one of my other bitches and had a lovely litter of 8 healthy pups. The other a field trial champion has sired 59 pups and was the stud owners most experienced dog.
I was wondering if it could be a tough hymen??
Oh !!and yes I would say she was ready tail going to one side and stood like a little lady both times.

I'd get her swabbed now as if there is any infection and she is at least 5 days away from mating when you get the result there will be time for A/B's to work. While you are there get the vet to examine her and make sure there is no stricture that might prevent a proper mating. Do bitches have hymens?

My bitch also stood like a little hussy, but that day would'nt tie with the dog. Next day ..... that was different. She tied and I thought she was never going to let him go ! Then once upon a time with my other bitch it was if the dog was not ( how do you put this, here goes), getting his willy in far enough. It took my friend to get behind the dog and as he thrusted she gave him an extra push and BANG ! it happend !! We got the tie. I think it may have been the case of a big dog with wee willy !!!

Warning am going to be a bit graphic.
What sometimes happens with slip matings is that if the bitch moves,or the dog isn't in far enough, but he becomes fully erect too soon, then the bulbous glandis is engorged outside the bitch and no tie is posssible.
This can be because the dog is inexperienced or too excited and ends up with premature erection (when dogs mate the penis is not fully erect until inside the bitch, penetration is enabled due to the bone in the penis), bitch skittish or not ready.

I had a bitch exactly the same, 1st season{not litterly first but first mating} young male no tie at all as he wouldnt let us near him when he was on top, 2nd season same male tried for 2 days but he simply couldnt reach, didnt put much effort into it and wouldnt accept any help so i went to a different male and a VERY VERY experienced handler who found the bitch had a sticture{narrowing inside} with some very carful handling and a very good male got a good 20 minute tie but alas no puppies, 3rd season different male{I used the dog from the 2nd season on the bitches sister so wanted to use a different line} 2 sort of ties where the male had become errect before penetrating enough, we held them together for as long as possible but no puppies,
4th season pulled out all the stops had her blood tested and went on the day she ovulated NOT when the vets said she was imminunt{as I know of a bitch who was imminunt for 7 days before she ovulated} had 1 sort of tie and a short tie and HORAY 7 puppies!
I think alot comes down to the stud dogs handler and the male dogs willingness to allow help, I handle a dog at stud for a friend who needs a gentle shove when he is penetrating the bitch otherwise he dosnt fully enter the bitch!!!! he dosnt mind at all!!!!!!!!!

Well took her to the first stud dog that we tried her with a year ago.Spent an hour ffaffing around as they do,running round the garden for a while then getting on ,getting off etc.Hubby was ready to come home as neither dog looked remotely interested in performing. Hey presto they did the business and we got a tie.Took her back again today but she didn't want to know at all,but at least we've had a tie which is something......now all we have to do is wait.
