Did you get him from a rescue home or from the previous owner himself ? Do you not have a telephone number for him ? Do you have any form of handwritten pedigree whereby you could trace the dam and sires names ?

no as the previous owner has moved we do not have a telephone no. also all he came with was his disc with his registration no. for his micro chipping but we have since changed the details to our own

Do they let you change the details without the ex owners permission ??
( just curious as to how easy it would be for a dognapper to go about this :( )

i changed the details on the internet had to have registration no. and password and new details came through a few days later with our information on it. i also throught you had to pay to change details, but nobody asked for any payment

On the chipping thread about this staff, I also suggested that the new owners would need written permission to change the chip details.
It looks too easy to me. The reason we have our dogs chipped is so that they are returned to us. If anyone can just change the registered name and address of the 'owner' then there is no point to having them chipped in the first place.
Ah well!!!

Added: I'm sorry I was writing whilst you were posting. What is the chip company name please. I'll make sure my dogs aren't with them! It looks too easy. Not saying that you are a 'dognapper' or anything

sorry its took so long to reply went on internet to check i wasnt mistaken, details are still in my name, the name of the company is called back home, but it does say on their website that registering dog details does not mean legally registered keeper

I'm glad that the details are still in your name. Although I am still a little worried about the safety of it all. On the other hand I don't suppose dog thieves bother re-registering the dogs anyway.
I hope it all works out fine for you.
I hope I haven't caused you any offense, I was just curious.

p.s. My dogs have Tracer chips. I'm not sure how you change the details, I suppose it tells me on the papers. Too idle to look though.

i must admit i dont put tag on his collar in case he gets out, because if he did other people could change details i suppose, i would just hope if he did get out(, and we try our hardest not to let him) that he would be scanned for a chip.
thanks

Blimey I'm with them !!!
Think an urgent call is needed to them today !!
Find this really odd that anyone can just change the details without prior permission !!!
