Hello all,
Just wondering if anyone from Viemar is reading this, or anyone who knows them? I was part way through a deal to buy a Doberman pup from a breeder they knew in North Wales, but they stopped responding to my emails about 4 days ago.
Also, if you are that breeder in North Wales, with a litter sired by a Viemar stud, can you contact me on stu_m@btopenworld.com ? Many thanks.
Hi Stu
Sorry if I've got this wrong, but are you buying a pup through a third party, i.e. not dealing with the breeder directly? If so, please think again, many puppy farms are in Wales, and no reputable breeder would sell their pups to someone without getting to know them first. Also if you've not met the breeder, you're unable to ask all the relevant questions regarding health tests etc, should you then need to contact the breeder with questions regarding your pup..... you'd be up the river without a paddle mate :(
You wouldn't buy a car from a stranger without seeing it first, so find a reputable breeder and enjoy a happy healthy Dobe.

Liberty is quite right in drawing your attention to the possiblity that this might be from a welsh puppy farm. When buying a dog you must be aware of the risk that one runs of encouraging the puppy farming industry, bitches bred too young and every season, spending their entire lives in the most disgusting circumstances and at the end of it all perhaps a bullet through their skull. As a dog lover this is something I’m sure you deplore. They are often not easy to recognise and never admit to being puppy farmers, their pups are cheaper, more readily available and even deliver to your door but by buying one we are being part of the problem.
Hopefully I'm over reacting but if you need to educate yourself further as to why you should avoid encouraging this industry go to www.puppywatch.org.uk.
Good luck

Hey,
Thanks for the interest and concern, but let’s not run away with ourselves here. The pup in question is being purchased from a 3rd party, but the 3rd party in question is himself a reputable breeder, and I was referred to him by reputable breeders. The litter was sired from one of the breeder’s dogs, who referred me, so they knew of the availability of the pups, and pointed me in the right direction.
I do now have direct contact with the owner of the pup I will be buying, and we are currently exchanging emails and soon telephone calls. The pup has been tested for hip and eye complaints, and is clear from vWD.
It is most defiantly NOT from a puppy farm, nor would Viermar Dobermans have referred me to this breeder if it were. I should also point out that the pup is not cheaper (£600 with a £100 deposit), was not readaly avalible (I think there are 3 left, one of which is being sent to a show home, hense the deposit), and there has been no offer to deliver to my door. ;)
Sorry for any confusion; it’s all above board, I just lost contact with my breeder for a while, due to a slight email problem. :)
Many thanks and keep fighting the good fight,
Stewart.

I'm curious, Stu - for what hip complaints has the pup been tested?

Hehe. :) Yes, Ok, perhaps that wasn't worded very well. Both parents have a 'good hip score'.
