HELP!!! Got Monty in last night to find a sticky substance round his mouth. Turns out he is trying to nibble slugs. I tried to get most of it off, he then went outside and found the slug again! Is this ok or will it cause him any problems. It is gross!!!!!

ahh, bradley does this brings in slugs and plonks them on our laps and looks very pleased. as you can imagine this does not bring us great hapinness. boys will be boys.
im not sure if its harmfull or not to eat them our neighbours child used to eat snails from the garden.

ANGIOSTRONGYLUS VASORUM (french heartworm)
cases have occured in dogs that are known snail or slug eaters.it is suggested that the most likely way that this problem has been spread is by the fox population for which snails and slugs make up an important part of their diet.
the foxes in turn pass on the parasite to the slugs and snails in their stools.
your dog can become infected as a result of eating snails and slugs that may harbour the immature form of the worm.
so please be careful.

Hi Sam

I had to laugh reading your post and some of the replies (especially Lindas), Gemma our lab used to bring in the biggest, ugliest slugs you have ever seen. It was like a game, she new she would get attention, she must have seen the look of horror on our faces when we saw what she had brought into our kitchen and thought great I'll hunt down some more. Boy did we have fun in the pouring rain trying to catch her and the black slimy slug stuck in her mouth, she did like snails aswell but she liked to pick those up and chuck them. Even at 16 months old she still chases butterflies and bees and bounces around our resident hedgehog so you have hope yet, I'm hoping Gemma will eventually grow out of all of the above (fingers crossed).
