Could any one help with a problem we are having with a 9yr old gsd (ish) male.
For the last tear he has constantly been licking his paws it has got so bad he can hardly walk. We have had him to two different vets with no success at first they thought something was trapped inside his pad not the case then we tried putting vile tasting stuff on his pads mustard vinegar salt water lemon juice etc didnt bother him we even bandaged his paws but he ripped them off and lightshade collars are a no no. We are going to try bitter apple next.
Another problem he has is hematomas on his ears one has been operated on but the vet has said just to leave the other!!
please help

Three thoughts,
1 it could be mites so dust the paws with mite powder,Thornit is good.
2 this might sound strange but some dogs do this when they have overfull anal glands, look at any good dog book to see how to empty them or get the vet to check
3 is it behavioural?, ie does he get extra attention because of the licking and it has become a habit, if he is a very large breed mix then he could be very old and going a bit doolally.More fun and careful exercise might help for either cause.

Hi sorry you dog is poorly but it could be that it is in pain from the hematomas and this is the only way he can cope i would try him /her on painkillers for a month and see what happens best of luck Jackie :-(

hi
my last dog suffered with itchy feet it was an allergy i had to wash them at least twice a day with a shampoo from the vet called malaseb,he had it all his life but the shampoo kept it at bay.
