I know you have to get your dogs hips and eyes tested before you breed but i wondered wether you get this done only once, or is it an annual thing? and if your dog has a litter of puppies do they all have to have hip/eye tests before they go to new homes?

Hi Guest
Except in a couple of breeds you don't "have" to do it but ethical and caring breeders do.

Hip scoring is only done ones in a dog's lifetime and in the UK is done after 12 months old.

Eye tests depend upon the breed.

For instance - Labradors should be done yearly and Dobermanns only once in their lifetime (when checking for PHPV).

Not everything can be tested for before pups leave the breeder as some things are age dependant. I believe collies (CEA) can be checked as tiny pups as can Dobes for PHPV.

If you edit your heading to read something like "more health questions" you will probably get a lot more response than "doggies" :)
