Hi All
Cherry the cavalier, (13) has recently had tests because our vet found she had an enlarged spleen, on a routine examination.

She's now had a VERY expensive couple of visits to an oncologist, (who repeated all the biopsies plus some more), and he's just called with the results..

She has CLL, which is Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia. (Bad..)
BUT....she doesn't need any treatment at the moment, because the disease has been noticed so early, that it isn't effecting her health, apart from the enlarged spleen. (Good!!)

She unfortunately has a nasty attack of colitis at the end of last week, which we think is probably due to the drugs and GA she had last Tuesday, to have the procedures done. But after a couple of days diet of boiled chicken and rice, she seems to have picked up ....
(I lovingly cooked the stuff all Saturday afternoon,in this heat....I didn't think anything smelt quite as stomach churning as liver...but I was wrong!!)
All she needs is a blood test every couple of months, to monitor her condition, and the oncologist said that he thinks she will live a normal lifespan without it killing her.....(she will die from something else!!) Oh well...she IS 13!

Just wanted to share the good news, ...bet the insurance company will be please, too, as the vet bills have totted up to £1200 already....and that was just all the tests and referral!!

So sorry to hear she is ill, but you've caught it early and thats a good thing.

Hope you have a good few years with her yet.

PS, good that you have insurance....these dogs can be damn expensive can't they?!
