Hi, I have a puppy who is 12 days old, he is much smaller than the rest of the litter and doesn't seem to be suckling, he gets knocked off the teat by the others and just seems to want to sleep but he is fading. He won't suckle any more and mum seems to have disowned him. Any help or advice to get him back on track is needed. Thanks.

Hi Have you tried bottle feeding the puppy, or giving it some milk off a teaspoon, evaporated milk mixed with water would do, it is urgent that you get it to take some fluids, if you could just get it to be a bit stronger you could bottle feed it so that you know it is getting a feed.

Hi I find a eye dropper is better than the syringe type, its easier to hold the puppy and put some drops into its mouth, I had to do this with one of mine for nearly two weeks, but all turned out o.k. in the end. I used Lactol as its easier to get than the other makes of doggy milks. Another good milk if you can get it, is goats milk straight from the farm and add some honey, I have a friend that swears by this for a poorly puppy.

Hi, I had been supplement feeding the whole litter as they were a little hydrated, (12 of them), the little un then stopped nursing so I have been bottle feeding him until a day ago and then he wouldn't suck the bottle at all. I have mixed up some honey and water and given him that, I took him to the vets last night and they have given him a shot of antibiotics and two lots of fluids straight into him, he is now nursing again but very slowly so I am just trying him on both a Welpi mixture and the honey and water mixture every couple of hours. His bodily functions seem to be working okay, so I'm hoping he'll pull through over the next day or so, taking back to vet tonight for a checkup. Thanks for the help I am more concerned that he might have PFS. So am frantically searching the internet for some help.
