i am about to buy a dog which the owner says he is a pedagree staff but says he has lost the paper work he has advised me that the dog is registered by you but he has no docs - the dog does look like a pedagree but im just not sure. I dont want to pay all that money if he's not. is there any thing you could advise me to check.

Sorry Guest; but he has lost the paperwork ??? and the dog is registered by 'you'. If you mean Champdogs, this is a Message Board, as I understand it, and nothing to do with registering/recording dogs. My advice would be to think very carefully about purchasing a dog from these people. Sorry to say; but if they can be so careless with the paperwork, how can you be sure all relevant health checks have been done?

Call me cynical, but I think I'd be looking elsewhere.

Good Luck,

liberty :)

thanks for all your advise. I do know the other owner and he does look after the dog - he is moving abroad and cant take the dog - he says he has phoned the kennel club but i want to see myself - he has gave detais of his date of birth his mothers name - is that all i will need. Because this will be my first dog i want to make sure. I know the dog well and he is a very loving dog and doesnt seem to have an problems with anyone even kids and other animals.
Do you have the kennel club details to see if i could phone up. I will applogise now if i sound a bit thick but as this is my first dog i am not too sure about procedures all i know is how to give the dog a loving home and all the attention he deserves.
Thanks again for all the info it is very much appreciated and hope you can help further

Mmmm I would ask them to contact the kennel club and get a duplicate registration /ownership form as this would be the only way to make sure the dog is definately a pedigree, if they say they can't I think you will have your answer.;) Why also are they selling the dog ? I would be very careful on this as if it is not a genuine reason for parting with the dog you may pay a lot of money for what might end up being a problem if for example the dog has a medical or behavioural problem.

Hope that helps.

As Lucy says the owner should be able to get a duplicate copy from the Kennel Club . The Kennel Club is the only genuine Register of Dogs and if the owner tells you he is registered with the Dog Lovers registration or any other rubbishy registration - walk away .
Is the Staffy a pup or adult ? Do you know the parents - have you seen them or had any information about the parents. It is possibe the owner has a problem dog ( not necessarily but possible) and I would not advise a novice owner to take on a problem dog , especially a Staffy . :(
Call his bluff and tell him to give you as much info as possible re: the pedigree and you will contact the KC yourself - then see what he says .
