Topic Dog Boards / Feeding / Runny poo/ mash potato
- By budmag [gb] Date 12.07.03 10:12 UTC
My Westie has had an on-going problem with soft poo ever since i've had him. Over the last last couple of months i've given him mashed potato with his food which has resulted in firmer poo but not quite as firm as some dogs i've seen. He recently was at the vet and needed his anal glands emptying again (4th time).
I did not give him any mash yesterday and this morning his poo was a big load of mush. What i'm i doing wrong. In every other way he looks and acts like a healthy 16month old male.
I recently read a posting dated 11.7.03 who said they changed their dog onto 'nature diet' or was it natural diet and it worked almost over night. Can someone educate me on this diet. Do you buy it or make it yourself? (I really hope you can buy it)
Budmag.

P.S i changed his diet months ago on the vets advice to another dry food which was lower in fat and protein. Buddy was on Nutro which i heard was a very good dog food. The breeder said he was fed this but this also caused very runny poo at the time.

Hope someone can help.

Hi
I would definately try changing his diet(gradually).Nature diet is a moist food that comes in cartons. You can buy it at pets at home.I've not used it but many people on here have and say its very good.
Other alternatives are to feed BARF which should sort the problem or some brands of food do a 'sensitive' diet.
Hope things improve,Archer

Hi

If you have a look at Westie Lovers post re What should I give a dog for collitis I have given my thoughts on nature diet and how it has helped my Lab.

You can get this from various outlets but here is the web site as you can get it directly from them at a much cheaper price if you buy in bulk !

Hope it helps.
