Hello everyone,
Is it true that the owner of an 'intact male' can be sued by owners of a bitch if it gets a bitch pregnant.

I actually thought it was the other way round - that its the bitch owners responsibility to avoid contact with entire males during season - but I could well be wrong! Be interesting to see what other people reckon :)

Would think it would depend on the circumstances. If the bitch is confined on her own secure property then possibly. If the bitch is 'out and about' not a hope in hell ,after all it takes two!!

Very unlikely I would have thought. It must be the bitch owners responsibility to keep her safe. A dog could be picked up for roaming lose but that would be by the council who may take action, not a private individual.
Not sure if you can charge a dog with trespass but I doubt it, it being hard enough to prove that against a person.
Owners of both dogs and bitches should do their homework and be aware of what care will be required in keeping the dog confined and safe. And should be as sure as possible that they can do this before buying the pup. If your own garden can't be made safe then think about finding a commercial kennel who will take her whilst she is in season.

If the bitch was a pedigree and the owner was planning on a litter this season etc and was got at by the next door neighbours pet pooch I wouldn't be suprised if something could be done since they could probably sue for 'loss of earnings'-b4 anyone jumps on my back its the only way I could think of putting it and although we all know theres not much money to be made from breeding the court may see different.

Tongue firmly in cheek here, but shouldn't the males owner be suing for a stud fee:D
