i work at a vets and have recently noticed a high amount of so called "pedigree puppies" that look nothing like the breed they are supposed to be. for example, a black and white boxer with longish nose, several cockers that look like dachs crosses (although these could be working cockers), and labradors with white markings! has anyone else noticed this? when asking the owners i found that some of them had been delivered! (because the breeder was in the area). Its quite worrying when people have pedigrees and may later breed from these dogs.

Hi Guest

Sounds very much like "puppy farmed" pups :(
There are a number in this area too and you're right - it is worrying. Besides looks, health and temperament can suffer too.
Most posters on this board try to warn people looking for pups of the potential pitfalls and give advice on contacting breed clubs etc when looking for a new family member.

Why don't you register with us and join in - it's always good to have new peoples views on things

I went to have a look (not to buy) at a well kown kennels in Manchester. They had a Bichon Frise 'puppy' which looked like a cross. It was huge and had really long leg. It was not a good looking dog, even if it wasn't suposed to be a bichon.

I regularly meet a samoyed at the park who was purchased from there. He looks like a long haired white GSD!!!The owner says theres 2 types of samoyed -the short hairy ones in the show ring and the 'proper' ones like his!!!

Went to our local County Show today, and one of the first dogs I saw was a Cavalier. He was a lovely Blenehim, well marked, nice head shape, adequate coat and well proportioned, only problem was,, he was about 16" tall! I had one of my American Cockers with me, and this dog was almost 2" taller than my Junior! He was, in fact, a giant Cavalier! His owner loved him to bits, and was very happy with him, but had noticed that most other Cavs she sees are a lot smaller. He has a pedigree and KC reg - he is about 5 years old and came for a well know puppy dealer/farmer in the County Durham area!

I often get dogs in for grooming who are obviously only very loosley related to the breed they are were sold as being.

bye

Bloosom, was it a kennels or that well know retail outlet for puppy farms, who run their own registration system?

It was indeed a retail outlet who run their own registration system.
