Hi All,
I have checked several web sites on plants dogs can't eat but am a little concered about my castor oil plant which Monty seems to find very tasty. Is anyone aware if this will cause him any problems?

This post only applies if this is the same plant you are talking about.....

If you mean the castor plant, yes, they are bad for dogs. Signs of poisoning are dullness, loss of appetite, raised temperature, constipation or sometimes diarrhoea. Sweating, cold body, distressed respiration.
If the dog has been poisoned, then give milk or oatmeal while you wait for a vet.

I don't think it is the same plant as Monty has been eating it for a week and shows none of the above - except the runs which is getting better. Plus he went to the vets yesterday and she gave him a clean bill of health. Maybe I worry too much :)

Thats no problem Sam. Glad its not the same thing....I think it is better to worry and get things checked out than ignore problems for them to get worse. Glad Monty's OK.
Oh....and...I agree whole heartedly on the slugs!!! DOWN WITH SLUGS!!!! I touched one the other night!!!! eeeewwwwwwwww!!!!!!!!! I washed my hand for an hour afterwards!!!!!!!!

Pity it does not have the same effect on slugs!!!!

There are many plants commonly found in home gardens which could prove lethal to dogs and especially puppies (who chew everything) - not to mention yourself and your children. It is not safe to assume that just because you can eat one part of a plant, the rest isn't poisonous. For instance, although we eat peaches, both the stone and leaf contain cyanide. Apricots also contain cyanide and children have actually died from eating too many apricot kernels. Although rhubarb stalks are good to eat, the leafy portion has been known to cause fatalities in humans.
