i have a fox terrier and want to get him stripped, we don't want to show him, but worry that clipping might make his lovely white coat dull. does anyone know where i can get him stripped in the northwest or will clipping really ruin his coat

Hi Guest,
I used to be a professional dog groomer & yes it does ruin the coat by clipping it. The coat goes very soft & it also makes the glands work overtime & the coat will feel oily to touch(or at least that is my experience with clipped fox terriers).
Try looking through your yellow pages under dog groomers or boarding kennels. If that fails ask the breeder who bred you dog where they get their dogs stripped or if they do it themselves ask if they would do your dog for you. Usual fee for hand stripping is £25 though.

If all else fails give it a go yourself it is relatively easy once you get the hang of it(although the dog may sound as if your torturing it the first time they are stripped because its a new experience for them) you can buy a blue or red handled MIKKI stripping knife from most pet shops/stores which makes work easier than hand stripping & leaves a very good finish when you get the knack, you may make a few steps or marks in the coat at first but don't worry it's only hair it will grow back :D.
Good luck
Angie.
