on monday we took archie (5 months) to the vet as we thought he was a little unwell (very sleepy/listless) the vet said he had a slight temp and an ear infection.
he is on antibiotics and has eardrops too.
we were putting his antibiotic pill into his food and at first he was eating fine.
however, for the last 2-3 days he hasn't really been eating at all. i am having to spoon-feed or hand feed and then he'll except the food (naturediet)
he is generally a very greedy little pup so it's quite worrying that he won;t eat. i know his being unwell could have put him off his food but i also think that perhaps it's because he doesn't trust us not to put yucky pills in his food - could that be the case?
should i keep on hand feeding him? i don't want him to get used to this...does anyone have any suggestions as to what to do to get him eating from his bowl again?
thanks.

hi, I use mini buffet sausages, you can ut slot in them and pop in the pill! If mine are unwell, they tend to sleep more and therefore don't require as much food, make sure he is drinking and hopefully his appetite should come back when he's fealing a bit better, if you're really concerned then give your vet a call and ask him if the pills could be making him feel sick.
To get him eating from his bowl put him something irrestistable (ham etc) in with his usual food.
thanks

Hiya,
Poor Archie, hope he starts to feel better soon.
If any of my dogs ever go off their food, which admittedly isn't often!! I usually give them, fish...if I have any, chicken, or a bit of egg (Boiled or scrambled..Mine prefer scrambled, picky little buggers!!) Just to get them to eat something.
I should imagine, any of these put into his bowl would make him eat. I must admit, that in the past I have resorted to handfeeding, well, you get desperate don't you?!! But this isn't really the best thing to do.
As for giving tablets, I always use a bit of cheese too....works wonders!!
Take care,
Lisa

I used to stick pills inside a piece of cheese. My last dog became so suspicious of me that after a while she would refuse to take cheese from me. Cheese from my husband was fine, HE never got involved with anything that the dog did not like.
Now, I stick pills inside a piece of cream cheese. It goes down so quickly and smoothly thay my dog does not even notice the pill. If I don't have cream cheese I cut a slot in a piece of meat and give it that way.

Hi guys - thanks v much, sorry i didn't reply on friday, bl**dy LP Parkins whoever she/he is had too many connections!
archie has finished his antibiotics now and is very very happy/healthy/bouncy/back to normal EXCEPT he will not eat his naturediet. he will eat anything else including our sandwiches which he managed to steal from our picnic on saturday.
he will eat his naturediet if i mix a bit of tuna in with it however, is he just being fussy? could he just be sick of naturediet now? i hope not - he really loved it before this, couldn't get enough of it...
any ideas on how to get him eating it again?
thanks

Hi
Mine have all gone off their wonderful NatureDiet...and I've got 10 cases upstairs!!
I think it's the hot weather, although they've seen Cherry having chicken n rice in the last few days, cos she had colitis.
I managed to get Saffy to eat hers today by mixing it with a little cold water, and making it a bit mushy. Perhaps it's a bit TOO meaty when it's hot? I know we don't fancy a roast dinner this weather, so p'raps they're the same?

A course of A/B's can put their stomach out of sorts. Give him a dessert spoon of natural live yoghurt twice a day on top of the food to re infest his gut with friendly bacteria. I recommend Arden Grange foods for puppies that dont eat that well, or if you prefer a lower protein then Burns Mini Bites. Both are usually enjoyed by most dogs and have well sourced ingredients - ( good quality - not beaks and feet!!)
