Hi all,

Not sure if I made an official announcement, but my bitch had her pups (4 girls, 3 boys) exactly 3 weeks and 3 days ago!

So far everything is going really well, my girl has been a fantastic mum, the pups are being weaned now, and are playing together, and making little barking noises! (very cute!!)

The book of the bitch has been my bible throughout her pregnancy etc, but I'm wondering, do any of you have any ideas on when to start first part of the socialisation period? (My pups are still in the whelping room, and have 'disinfected people' visitng them!! and Mom can go in and out whenever se wants to) They seem to be getting on very well, and have no problems with people.....but any ideas on puppy socialisation much appreciated.

Thanks

Lisa

I usually start to socialize my litters around 5 weeks, I never take them out of the house until they're 6 week jabs. But I allow them around the house, supervised in different rooms, or on a vinyl tables cloth on the living room floor. I allow people who have passed their homechecks to visit the pups and so on, starting at this age. HTH.

We start "main socialisation" when they are about 4 to 5 weeks, when they are begining to bound about, so they can come up and meet the visitors. We take them out from our Whelping room and put them in a puppy pen (on a piece of plasticised canvas) in various parts of the house to get used to the noise and movement.

Our troop (3 bitches and 2 dogs) are 6 weeks and 5 days and are a bunch of woolly thugs!

Thanks for that!

Al, as I said, mine are 3 wks and 4 days (today) and they're a bunch of woolly thugs too. Everytime I try to clean the whelping room, I'm attacked from every angle!! They haven't had their teeth for very long, but they've certainly learned how to use them fast!!
Still..I wouldn't have it any other way! Gotta love the little monsters!!

Thanks again....good to hear your 'woolly thugs' are doing well!!
