Topic Dog Boards / General / Getting the blame for dogs fouling!!!
- By westielover2 [gb] Date 10.07.03 15:18 UTC
I have a westie and I walk him 3 times a day as I work fulltime and feel he needs to get some fresh air.
The other morning at 7.30am I was followed down an alley way by an old woman who was shouting and shrieking at me in her dressing gown saying that I'd allowed my dog to foul and I hadn't picked it up. There was a mess there but it had been there for 2 weeks and no my dog hadn't done it.
At about 5pm I walked my dog again she came out her house and watched me as I walked my dog and then her husband got up onto some stepladders and watched me. All the time they were shouting I'm going to report her its ridiculous. At 11pm she was waiting again.
At all times I clear up after my dog I always have spare bags and am very conscientious and there is no way my dog would foul and I would walk away, I've tried explaining to her that I always clean up she won't have it and said to me "I watched your dog foul and you did nothing"
What can I do I don't want to walk elsewhere Its my neighbourhood my dog likes it etc etc.
The other day she had a go at a young girl who was walking a westie.
The thing is I often talk to tother careful dog owners we know the owners who allow their dogs to foul and don't clean up but this woman refuses to believe this it seems to be a "westie" thing I dread it when I see a dog mess there as I know my dog will get the blame, shes also put weedkiller down this public alleyway to try to deter dogs.
What should I do help!!!!

If I were you I would ignore her.... just keep walking and take no notice. She's obviously a screw loose, and you cannot reason with someone like her, so keep walking and she will get tired of it when she gets no reaction. You know you have done nothing wrong - you have nothing to worry about.

I agree with Chloe , whilst you talk to her you are fuelling her ire.

Keep on walking and totally ignore her. (You could even ring the local council and let them know whats going on ...at least if you get in there first they will *know* who to believe if she ever tries to complain)

How anoying. I would probably tell her to buy a video camera so she can take a photo of the REAL person and them get them prosicuted, or ignor her.

I had a problem like this.
Was walking my WGSD in the park as normal and were on our way home when a man in the middle of the field yells COME AND CLEAN YOUR DAMN S**T UP! At first I didnt think he was talking to me but when I realised he was I confronted him. He didnt believe me when I said it wasnt me either. Seems to me that they dont like to think they are wrong or have made a mistake, maybe they are too embaressed to admit they made a mistake?

May be when you have picked it up don't bin it, then you will have the evidence to put under their noses, should they not belive you.

What a nightmare

Some people just dont want to hear the truth, perhaps the crazy woman saw one Westie "poo" and now just has a go at Westie owners.

Just illustrates how absolutely maddening it is when other owners don't clean up!!!

If you know who DOES leave a mess, could you get together with other dog owners and explain that it leaves others open to abuse? Or maybe contact the dog warden who may help?

We have a great dog wardne on one of our parks who sits waiting for owners to not pick up and then she goes up to them and makes them pick up  LOL

I'm sorry for your trouble, it does spoil an otherwise nice walk, but these people are being totally unreasonable.

I get this type of thing now and again. When I tell them it wasnt my dogs and they continue to shout about it I use the international language in case they dont understand "F### OFF" Seems to work.

The last time I was accosted by a gentleman demanding I clear up some dog mess on the pavement outside his house, I offered him a poo sack and told him if it was still warm I'd pick it up if it was cold it was nothing to do with me but he could keep my poo sack as a gesture of my good will! I knew it was an "old" offering and nothing to do with my dog.

Yes people allowing their dogs to mess the pavements is antisocial, but so is accusing innocent parties!

If you clean up after your dog then you can either ignore her or tell her you are going to report her to the authorities for harrassment if she keeps it up.

I had a doozy of an argument a couple of years ago walking my sister's Cairn. This man came running out of his house and starting shouting at me that my dog *always* messes. He pointed to a large deposit and claimed it was the product of the Cairn. I pointed out to him that not only had I just cleaned up after the Cairn, but that the old poo he was pointing to had to have been from a much larger dog.

There was no calming him down and he ended up screaming at me that he was going to "get me" and so on. I invited him to try -- pointing out to him that he lived in New York and I lived in England. He was welcome to come find me at home. He gave up. And of course on returning to my sister's house I warned her to stay clear of that area for a couple of weeks. :-)
