Topic Dog Boards / Health / Stud Tail, anyone know about this?

Hi everyone,

I hope you might be able to offer some advice, my dog ( a choc Labrador) last week developed a small swelling about an inch up from the base of his tail, it does'nt cause him any discomfort and he still wags his tail with great enthusiasm, but it has slightly affected the "line" of his tail as it looks like a kink, my vet said it was "stud tail" caused by a gland, and would clear up, he has'nt lost any hair in the area, infact he seems to have a lot of hair coverage in the area it's difficult to see the skin.

At first I though he may have dislocated it or worse broken it, but I'm sure that can't be the case it does'nt hurt him, he has'nt been used for stud yet and I'm worried that this may mean me reconsidering my plans for him, he tends to walk with his tail down now but does lift it when you interact with him, I can hold it in it's correct position and then it looks like a "hump" in the tail. Have you heard of this? Should I request an X-ray?

thanks
kelly
