Dear All
Poppy (mini schnauzer) is often found chewing her vet bed and occassionally eating bits of it. But, she loves to sleep on it during the day and night. Do I need take away from her, or is the odd bit of Vet Bed unlikely to do any harm???
Thanks
Karen.

Karen
Our lab used to do something similar when he was a puppy. ( i say similar but it isnt - lol ) We had a large hard plastic bed, every morning and night he would pee on it :P but he was more than happy to sleep in it!
But common sense suggested we remove it and replaced it with something else.
Try it and see if she continues to do it, if so give her a kong or bone or something to chew on instead of the bed.
Regards
mark

From the experiences of one of mine - vetbed passes safely out the other end (presumably scouring the passages clean all the way through

Hi Karen
My youngest eats hers given a chance :rolleyes: To date it has always passed through her (along with the corners off each and every "dog" towel)
I ended up just using shredded paper in her outside run as she had 2 new bits she took holes out of the middle of :( In the house they each have a piece of vet bed they carry around as a comfort blanket and she still has a nag at that if I'm not keeping an eye on her. Luckily it is only the vet bed and the dog towels that have been chewed and never anything of mine (well apart from two shoes from different pairs

)

Hi Karen,
Dylan will drag his vetbed out of his crate and have a good chew. But I think he also sees his as a sort of 'practice girlfriend' - ie. he gets quite intimate with it, if you know what I mean!

:rolleyes:

Hey at 6 months they will chew anything - if it gets too much take the vetbed away and offer something else to chew, something more tasty!! 6 month pups WILL chew fact of life.....just have to train them to chew acceptable things................

Mine also chews his bedding. He sleeps on an old cot duvet which was in perfect condition when he got it but is now sad and frayed with the stuffing coming out. He loves it though and just to prove how much, he drags it to the middle of the living room floor every night after supper and gives it a good seeing to..........:D Bless.....
