Hi

I have 2 staffy's and my girl is 21 days into season I was thinking of breeding but my older dog is not very well so this is out of the question for the time being, is it to early to introduce them back together last season I kept them apart for 5 weeks on the advice of my vet, but he now seems to think that things will be ok. I cann't risk my girl getting pregnant as my dog has been diagnosed with pulmonary disease which one it is they are not sure and have taken samples for testing.

Comments very welcome.

Niki,

I certainly wouldn't put them back together yet. Bitches have been known to stand for breeding as late as day 28. I usually keep mine apart for a minimum of five weeks. Hope this helps you.

Hi, to find out if she will still stand for a dog to be mated - but him on a lead and let them meet, if he tried to mount her watch her reaction, and be ready to pull him away quickly. if she stands still then seperate them again. If she keeps hopping out of his way or starts growling at his attentions then you could let them loose in a room in the house and watch them closely - keep them in the same room as you - for an hour or two - dont leave them for a moment. If she keeps on rejecting him you should be ok - but I would keep them seperate at night- when they cannot be supervisewd, for a few days. She is almost certainly not fertile now.
