Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / Male Yorkie fees for studding

I have been asked by a neighbor to breed with her Yorkie about 2 months ago. She said I will call you when the bitch is ready. She called me 7/1/03 to tell me her dog was ready. I spoke to her on the phone about it and told her I was new with this and she started talking about what happens. My friends say she is trying to rip me off.

She said that when you breed them, I have to keep them a couple of days to make sure they take. Well I was told about the dangers of breeding also about the male and if the female sits and I want to know what goes on cause my dog might get hurt. I don't want to do that, I don't know her and my dog wants his family. So anyway, she says that she has to pay all the vet bills and take care of the dog and she said well what fee do you want and I said I am not familiar with the fees, but I said around $500.00 was what I was told by friends and then I called the pet shop that grooms him and they said no, you get what she sells it for. THen she says, 500 is too much, I think 250 is more like it, cause he's never mated before. Does that have to do with anything if he's never mated before?

Do I get the fee from her first before the dog has the puppies? Is that correct that you get whatever she sells the dog for and I do I worry about vet fees? I should do an agreement first, right?

Please help me, I am bringing him to her this weekend, july 4th weekend. Thanks Sorry for such a late notice but I just found this website to get help with this, Thanks so much. Kim :)

DONT do this if you dont want to - the chances are the dog wont perform - most "virgin" dogs faced with their first few bitches just faff about and dont know what to do, which can be very embarressing for the dog owner. If you dont know what to do either this is a recipe for disaster - your dog could be seriously hurt. Apart from the mating process it will almost certainly change his future temperament and he will become frustrated. The dog owner is just as responsible for any puppies morally, as the bitch owner - how will you feel if she doesn't rear the puppies properly and then sells them to anyone who will pay the price. She just wants a cheap stud, nearby and is taking advantage of your inexprience and sopunds very like a back yard breeder.
How experienced is she - that she would want to use a maiden dog - an experienced breeder would not want to take their bitch to an maiden dog handled by a complete newcomer to the process- you. He is very unlikely to perform at all - let alone in strange surroundings. Many owners of pedigree males are approached for stud work and its understandable that you are flattered, but she just wants to make a quick buck out of you. Just say no. you've changed your mind and keep your dog a safe and happy companion, which is almost certainly what you got him for.

Matings should be "handled" by experienced dog breeders, to avoid damage to both dog and bitch. They should never be left loose, unsupervised, to do it naturally. If a bitch isn't ready and the dog is persistant, then she can tell him off in the only way she knows how, and snap at his face. If she gets bored during the tie, then she may well try to sit down.
I would never recommend using a pet dog for stud work. In many cases, as can be seen in the show ring regularly, once a dog has had a bitch, then he is always on his toes looking for another. In a pet home, that can mean jumping fences, urinating in the house to mark his territory to show all the girls in the area that "the man" is about!
This bitch owner is using you and your dog for her own ends, not thoughtfully breeding puppies. Yours just happens to be a convenient male! I would tell her to go elsewhere and love my dog the way he is!! Good luck.

When I studd my male out to approved bitches they always bring their bitches to my house only ( I would never take him to their house females I feel should always go to the males house) and I only allow three breeding ex. mon, wed, thurs (they are welcome to leave their bitch but I do encourge them to stay since Iam a stranger to their little girl). They pay me up front on the first breeding. Bitch must be free from std (sexual transmittted diseases) must have proof of tests. Then they must be vet checked written by vet if she is not in pup, then I will offer a free breeding next time.

I would think this through a lot more and if so make her come to ur house if she wants to breed with him and get paid upfront. This way u are there and so is she. Have all the tests genetic/herditary ect been done on ur dog as well as the bitch? U really don't want to be passing bad traits/genes onto the pups. When they tie the initial act only last a couple of seconds and the tie can last from 10min to 45min or longer depends, so know if she takes or not she will not know that until she is at least 4 - 5 weeks when she can be palpalated. Me personally it sounds like she is trying to take u and I wouldn't allow my dog to be used like that. Good luck

ttfn :)
