Topic Dog Boards / General / Tail Docking Petition (locked)
- By carolyn Date 01.07.03 09:27 UTC
The Council of Docked Breeds (CDB) has originated an online petition intended to demonstrate to the U.K. Government that there is negligible support for legislation that stops the unnecessary banning of tail docking of whelps.

Please add your support to this petition by clicking on the link shown further down in this email (you may prefer to copy the link and to paste it into your web browser). If you have a web site, please consider offering a link to the petition site.

Most importantly, to ensure that this petition is a success, please forward this e-mail to at least FIVE other interested people you know who may wish to sign it.

The petition is time limited so please add your support and tell your friends today. There is also a petition in support of banning the procedure on the same site so it is important that the numbers in favour of continuation exceed the anti docking petition.

<...so it is important that the numbers in favour of continuation exceed the anti docking petition.>

Depends on one's POV, surely? I am aware how contentious this topic is, but IMHO it would have been better simply to bring attention to the existence of BOTH petitions without bias, and leave it up to the individual to attach their name (or not) to one or other as their conscience dictates.

Having said that, online petitions are generally a complete waste of time and are mostly disregarded by decision-makers because of the ease with which false names can be added to bulk out support. If you feel strongly about an issue, there are more effective ways to campaign - 'hard' paper petitions; individualised emails or letters to MPs/governing bodies; organised marches etc.

I think my point of view is clear Maddy. I've seen too much or the damage done to tails.

Hi Maddy

I think it's a credit to Carolyn that both petitions were mentioned,so anyone who disagrees with docking, could add their name. She obviously feels strongly about this, and is entitled to her views.

From personal experience about writing letters, that was ineffective. Perhaps an on-line petition will show the strenght of feeling on a subject.

Hi kazdap

Whilst I understand your support for Maddys view, there have been so many arguments on this board lately, it would be a shame if this post went the same way. Tail docking is a controversial subject, but Carolyn posted that both the for and against could vote.
