I have 2 terriers, female and male and I would really like to breed this season which give's me only days to fully decide if I want to breed this season or next, if I leave until the next season it will be winter time and I would prefer to breed in the warmer months I work full time and would really like some advice for other breeders on what I need to expect and also roughly how puppies are usually in a litter my dogs are both red and from both good pedigree's and are both KC registed so I know that I would not have any trouble finding new homes.

Comments please

You may find you get more comments than you bargained for.

I would say that you don't know enough about your breed if you are asking these questions - plus, only contemplate breeding if you can take time off work to look after the puppies. Wait till next time and use the extra time to learn more. Believe me, there are enough unwanted staffies in rescue already.

You should never decide to breed when under pressure of time. You have a lot to consider before breeding. You need to learn more about your breed and what breeding entails - especially if you work full time. Get yourself a copy of The Book of the Bitch by J M Evans & Kay White. At least then you'll know more what you are getting in to. Your boy may not be suited to your bitch. Talk to her breeder to see what lines would complement her. Also you cannot know you would not have trouble finding good homes. Many experienced breeders believe they have found a good home only for it to go wrong. Most reputable breeders breed because they want a puppy themselves, do you?

There are hundreds of thousands of KC reg'd dogs out there - it does not make them good for breeding or gurantee there progeny will be desirable. Please please delay your mating and do a lot more homework to decide if it the right thing for your girl and your boy. He may find it difficult living with your girl after mating and will also expect to have more goes!! can you satisfy his desires or are you prepared to deal with a significant change on temperament that can happen after they've "had a go"!

What are your reasons for wanting to breed?
