AFTER all health checks necessary for your breed (check with your breeder) which will be after your dog is 12 months old, at the earliest. Vet checks are not sufficient: you must check hips, eyes, heart (possibly) - if there iare any heredity problems with your breed, you must make sure that both dog and bitch are clear: you don't want to be in the position of having bred puppies that do have problems and then find yourself, as the breeder, wholly responsible for them!
As others will also advise you, do talk to your breeder (or breeders) and get yourself a copy of Book of the Bitch (can't remember who wrote it - but it is marvellous). After reading it, and all the other replies to your post, you may decide that breeding is not for you - it is extremely nerve-wracking - but if you do all the tests first, listen to all the advice, and then decide to go for it - good luck!

Hello
Firstly, in all honestly, it doesnt sound as though you have done any research. Sorry to be so blunt, but breeding is NOT something to take on lightly. And just because you get a male and female together and bbreed them, it DOESNT mean that the puppies will be healthy/fit breed specifications etc. You dont say which breed you have.
What Margot said is exactly right. Get that book and read it, also speak to other breeders, ring breed club etc. You need to have ALL the facts before you go into this. Also, just because you have a male and a female, it doesnt mean that they will take to each other. Breeders (good ones) spend a lot of time, money and effort trying to find the best stud dog for their bitch. They plough the country. In all fairness, you need to accept that the 2 you have may not go well together.
Get them hip scored, eyes checked, blood tested and heart check ( depending on the breed, not all breeds require this as compulsory)
I really hope that you spend a long time thinking about this before you jump in and do it. Trust me, you will get much better results and you will enjoy the whole thing a lot more when you have done your research and know what you need to know. Otherwise, throughout her pregnancy, you are constantly going to see little things that you may not know what they are, and then you will spend the whole time panicking because you dont know if they are nomal or not.
Breeding is great, but it has to be done properly.
Hope this helps and good luck
