Hi all, Im new to this site and own my first dog, a 7 month old male doberman. I feed him twice a day with pedigree chum dry food mixed with puppy canned food. CAn anyone suggest alternatives I can try. What about milk. Should I give him milk? I have read about bones and will go and get him one from the butchers tommorw.
Help would be really appreciated

I have a 19 month dobie and all he drinks is milk and tea. The vets said its fine but i still leave water just in case. As for the food pedigree just would not fill him, so i tried every dry complete dried food on the market and ended up with doctor johns. As for the bones i give him roast from the pet shop much less mess for me! This is what i do but as with any dog its what THEY like that counts.
Hi and welcome to Champdogs
Having tried many over the years the only dried food I could recommend is Wafcol - Maintenance or Racing depending on whether they are growing, pregnant, feeding etc etc and even this I added meat (tripe, breast of lamb) and fruit and veg to.
With my pack of Dobes I now feed raw but appreciate not everyone can bring themselves to do this - check out some of the threads on BARF etc and this will give you more information.
Once weaned it is my view that dog's don't *need* milk but most of them do like it.
Owing to the fact that one of my bitches ate her marrow bone and I nearly lost her as a result (rather than just chewed at it) I no longer give marrow bones and have not done so for many years.

Hi Raf,
I too have a dobe, my third, she is nearly 6 months old and I feed her on Nutro large breed puppy. She looks wonderful on it. She also has bio yoghurt every morning which she adores. I have also just recently got her her first marrow bone and she loves that too. I don't give her milk, only water, but my first dobe went mad for milky tea. Why do you want to change his food, don't you think what he is getting is suitable for him, or are you just looking for an alternative? Because if he is a good weight and isn't sick or loose why change his diet? Hope you enjoy your dobe, for me there is no other breed comes near, just my opinion but hey, we all have our special breed don't we.

Hi Raf
Funny coincidence but I have a male dobe and very nearly called him Raff!
