Help!!!! I'm a new puppy owner..and I just recently purchased a boxer from a breeder in a nearby town. She is 10 weeks old now..and i have to get her shots done..- she sheduled to go in on monday- but she has a green discharge coming out of her vaginal area. Its smells rather sweet..I was reading other posts about pyometra and this sounds bad..can my dog die? I'm prepared to do whatever it takes..but what causes this? She hasn't even had her first heat yet!

Anyone that can help me..please..I'm really worried

Thanks..

Just point it out to the vet on Monday. As long as she is lively and happy at the moment, dont worry. If he thinks she has an infection it may be a good idea to delay the vaccination for a week or so, while its treated. I dont think its possible for it to be pyometra at this young age.

Hiya...

I don't think it's Pyo at her age.....it's highly unlikely.

mention it to your vet, it'll probably be a small infection that can be easily cleared up with antibiotics.

Good luck

I have a poodle bitch who came to me at 8 weeks with vaginitis. I spent a lot of time and money testing and trying to treat her with antibiotics with no response. Lots of different vets having different opinions. The end result from a top specialist was that puppy vaginitis is not uncommon and usually clears up on its own...maybe some months later. No damage, no sickly puppyand I have a beautiful healthy bitch four years later. I tried a natural booster from the Health Food store...'vegetal silica' 9suggested by a naturopath, and I know that did work because I ran out after a month and the discharge returned, only to clear up when I resumed.
Good Luck

Hey all! Thanks for responding so quickly! I was really worried about her. I took her to the vet and he said it was just a small infection, but gave me no antibiotics. He said to just wipe the area clean with a damp warm rag and keep it clean for the time being. We go back in about 4 weeks for another check up. He did say that she is a bit under weight, so I need to feed her cooked hamburger? Any thoughts on this one? I do feed her, but she's just not hungry. I'm at a loss. (p.s. I live in Canada, so a lot of the food/products that you have in the uk we don't have here).

Star has the same problem. We were told it was vaginitus, which is common. We were told we could get antibiotics to clear it if we were going to breed her. We are not so just keep her clean.

At 10 weeks, it is important to keep her weight up. I would tempt her with anything that might appeal...perhaps a little liver, or chicken ..
brown it in a pot, cook in a little water, then mix into a good quality puppy dry food and let it soak for half an hour. She might enjoy that. Make sure she is well wormed. (Australia).
