our boxer is three years old. we are either looking to breed him...or get him the snip! can anyone offer advice on either option? we have heard that getting them 'done' is good for their health, but we do not want to change him. however, i wouldn't know how to go about getting him a mate. can you help??

You don't need to do either. Just leave him as he is, your beloved pet dog.

If either option was going to change him it would be the breeding one!!!!

If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

If you're happy with him as he is, and he's happy and healthy, just leave him.

i got my 4 year old boxer done (male) and it was for the best .
we got him done when he was 1 to 2 years of age. and insted of this boxer trying to mate anything thats moves.now he is a slopy little thing and so much better.and i know this for a fact that he is happer in his self.

if you dont want to breed and you 100% and your mind is made up then get him done (coz once the job is done theys no going back)

if you want to breed your boxer will have to have hart tests to make sure that he is 100% ok for breeding

but you can prob with breeding. your boxer will after his frist mate he'll want to do it more and more and that can cause loads of probs for you and you boxer. ask your vet of mating and sniping.
hope this has help chell

Vets aren't always the best people to ask!! They are happy to take your money for the castration and are not going to advise against it! Dont breed him - and if his behaviour is fine then a others have said, leave well alone. Just enjoy him!

When I took my youngest Elkhound to be microchipped last year(at about 6 months of age) the vet asked 'when shall we book him in for castration'!!!!DON'T THINK SO.
