3 weeks ago I adopted a Whippet X Lurcher, She is very quite and gentle but is settling in well. Only problem she barks at other dog's which is very off putting even though her tail waggs she apperas very aggressive. Off the lead she is fine with other dogs although quite scared. Can anyone give me some advice!!!! She was found in a pound at 9 month's old and was rehomed where she lived for the last 3 and a bit year.

Hi
Our pup is also like this off lead he is brill around dogs wouldnt hurt a fly just a bit timid . When hes on the lead he also barks away and looks aggresive also but the tail goes mad. I think he could just be a bit scared by other dogs , maybe your rescue dog could of had a bad experience with another dog?
I think the best thing to do is socialise him as much as you can with other dogs , onlead first and then when he calms and stops barking his reward could be play off lead .
Oscar is getting quieter now and we have used the above method , as long as he gets lots of socialisation he will soon realise that other dogs are no threat to him.(If a dog is scared of other dogs i think they bark as they know there on lead so not in control)
Anyway the people with all the experience will post soon and help you further , good luck and keep us informed with your progress , would be nice to find out which methods really work
