I have a ten week old Border Terrier puppy who seemed to be well house trained when we got her. She knew that she had to go on paper and would do so. However she has started to go in her bed and in her cage. She is never locked in her cage and most of the time has access to outside. She is quite deliberate in the way that she does it and it does not appear to be an accidental thing. I wash everytime her bed and covers to get rid of any odours and if I catch her at it I say a firm no and put her on her paper or outside. I was led to believe that dogs hated wetting their beds - could there be some pyscological problem? I have read lots of books on house training and thought I was doing everything right but this seems to be getting worse. Any suggestions!

We have a 2 year old lab with the same problem. I suspect that it is an incontinence issue. Our vet suggested that our dogs bladder muscles are weak and when she goes into a deep sleep, they are loose causing the urine to leak out. Sometimes it is more than a tiny leak. Not the dogs fault. Our vet put our dog on a medication. I don't have it here, but it is quite common and should be easy to find. It has really helped reduce the number of accidents. We have gone from one a day to about one a month. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the advice however this is something that she does on purpose i.e. she will actually go to her bed to have a tiddle. She could be playing around near her paper or by the front door and rather than go where she knows she should and most the time will, she will go purposefully to her bed and pee. I dont think its incontinence or a physical problem just something in her head that she seems to thinks its OK, even after the NO's that she gets afterwards! I missed the first few tiddles in her bed as it didn't show but then it started to smell and I realised what she had been doing. She must have been sleeping in it the disgusting dog!

Has she been checked by the vet for any possible urinary tract infection?
