Topic Dog Boards / Behaviour / What to do...?

My 11 week old golden retreiver pup is coming along well with housetraining. He sleeps in his kennel at night, and also spends some periods during the day in there while napping. He is, however, doing something very odd. Because he is only 11 weeks, he still has "accidents", normally one per day (my fault I suppose for not getting him outside quick enough). In any event, instead of going on the floor, he goes into his kennel, wets, and then pulls the bedding out onto the floor. Is it possible that this is just an attention seeking maneuver rather than a true "accident"? He sleeps through the night with no accidents, and this behaviour only occurs during the day. I know he does not like it initially when he is crated, but, he always settles down within about 15 seconds or so and goes to sleep.

Any ideas what is going on here?

Hi,

I think it's likely to be that he can smell where he went in the kennel before and feels comfortable with the smell, so keeps going back. Do you clean the pee up with a proper stain and odour remover in the kennel?
