Well, all i wanted to know was if anyone out there has a male staff they are looking to breed? I have kept staffordshire bull terriers for a while now and have a 2 and a half year old bitch which i am looking to breed. She is not a show dog, however she is a stunning looking dog. I did not want to breed at the age she is,ideally i would have waited for another year but have been advised to breed or get her spayed as she keeps having phantom pregnancys. I She has been brought uo with children and is a very loving dog.
I live in Essex,England

Hi Vicky
can your breeder not offer any information as to the best dogs suited to your bitch?

Lost contact as they moved about a year ago. Shes KC registered and just want to make sure i get her the right dog. Had a few people with males interested but shes a large bitch and all the dogs seem very small.

I'm not a breeder so dont want to get your hopes up but I do love Staffys .
What lines is she from? Some lines are more compatible than others - epecially if she is a big bitch . You dont want to be breeding over exageration so its not always a bad thing that the dogs are smaller.
Has she been eye tested ?

Shes been vet checked and tested. Have got one male that she would be compatible with. But he was born with a dodgy tail, only one out of nine but worried it might be genetic. Other than that he would be the perfect mate.

The eye testing has to be done by a specialist on the BVA panel of Veterinary opthalmologists. Also it is a goo idea to have her hip scored. You can read up on the health schenes here http://www.bva.co.uk/about/canine.html

Depending on where you live these two tests will xost roughtly £200. It is best to have the eye test done first as it is cheaper, and then do the hips if hse passes the eye test.

Joining the regional breed club would be an idea, and attending some of their events will allow you to see the best dogs, and make some contacts with good breeders.

WL - I disagree - a dog does not have to be a show dog to be a stunning looker. It helps prove they are good against the standard - but not all dogs take to showing. I'm not saying that any good looking dog/bitch will do - of course not - but it doesn't have to be a show dog to be a good example of the breed and worth breeding from. The girl should be properly checked out though for relevant health and also to see if she is a good example and I would look to get her looked at by a reputable people in the breed.

Hi, I just meant that to my mind, a stunning looking dog would be one that fits the standard for the breed which would then be a dog that was of show standard - it would't necessarily need to be shown or to enjoy it, to be show standard. :-)
