Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / Similar temperment toa samoyed-whatbreed

We have a sam whose friend, a small mongerel, has just passed away. We are looking for another dog to fill the hole in his life, and would like a dog whose temperment is similar to his. He is a samoeyed but he doesn't bark indoors. The dog would also have to be able to go offlead easily with him to play, he is 5 and is very good offlead and doesn't try to jump out the garden which is fenced to 4 feets. We are stuck for what type of dog to take on, they would have to have similar requirments of exercise to him and live indoors. Feeding/space not an issue, we can cater to those easily. Any ideas of breeds or crosses that could be fitting? Someone said a rough collie, what do you think? Any others?

Thanks.

I would say an elkhound (similar size but less coat, and not quite as noisy, but vocal if not trained not to be). All mine go ff lead, and with training are pretty reliable, but can be a bit selective with their hearing in common with most Spitz breeds. I would also highly recomend Keeshonds ( I have a good friend with these so know them well), probably less prone to wandering further from you, but smaller than the Sammy, but similar coat. another very similar sociable natured Spitz is the Finnish Laphund, also a little smaller than the Sammy, nearer to the Keeshond for size, with most often Tricolour coat, but Reds and other colours also seen.
