Topic Dog Boards / Feeding / Bones with meat on it?
- By ckk [ca] Date 20.06.03 19:42 UTC
My neighbour just gave me a huge bone with meat on it for my dog. I have a 3 year old pit and a 18 week old pit. The bone has meat on it and its being boiled right now. Is it ok if I give it to the older dog?
Also, there isn't very much meat on it, I just don't want her to get sick.

Sorry to say but I wouldn't give it at all boiled, but would have happily fed it raw. JMO

Do not feed it to either-especially the adult!!!.A cooked bone is brittle and will splinter -it could cause serious harm.Only feed raw bones.

Hi,
Errrrrr, yes, if you have just boiled the bone, then take it and sling it in the bin.

ONLY feed raw, NEVER cooked.

Gill, what sort of bones where they? Did they contain marrow? Did your dogs just chew them, or did they actually eat them?
Marrow is really rich, so if thats teh case, then that will be whats done it, if not, i dotn know, my lot dont get the runs off too much meat/bones, its usually the other way round.

Mine too-no runs after bones, thats fir sure but if there was lots of meat on it and the dogs aren't used to it I'd say not to worry.Hope they enjoyed them!!

Hi
They where lamb bones raw straight from the butchers, and the dogs did enjoy them they where out side with them for about 2 1/2 hours.

thanks Gill

Yes - I have found in the past that if my dogs have new bones for too long, it can make them a bit loose. I usually take new bones away after about 15 minutes and only give them back the next day when there is usually the opposite problem :D
