Topic Dog Boards / Feeding / help with my new lab

im hoping that someone can advise me on what to feed my wee lab, Bramble. she is 11 weeks old, i pick her up in a week. her breeder has been feeding her on wilsons and chudleys and i wanted to change to a single food. went to pets at home and couldn't believe the choice and the huge price difference. price isn't really a huge factor because i would rather feed her something good for her and that she will like.

does anyone have any comments on wilsons gravy mix? chudleys? (saw some comments about this that weren't that positive). she has bundles of energy and is very healthy, save a small, but healing, umbillical hernia. she was the smallest in the litter, but has a good appetite. she picked me and the rest is history.

i was reading the info on james wellbeloved, hills, pedigree chum, eucanuba, iams....and ive just got myself all confused! so any advice would be gratefully received.

thanks, Mhairi

different food suits different dogs....my lot have 3 different brands between them! The main thing is to continue with what the breeder is doing, even if only for a week or two until pup is more settled in. Then gradually change it to the food of your choice. I have no idea what Wilsons is but have very successfully reared giant breed pups on Chudley Puppy. :)

I wouldn't feed IAMs or Beta if thats any help!! JWB does not suit all dogs - some do well on it some do not. I have found that my puppies dont like Pedigree products. Whatever you decided on dont feed the high protein puppy foods, some can be as high as 28-40% protein - they are best for smaller dogs who mature fast. You want to grow your lab slowly without letting it get overweight - ever!! I would look for a puppy food for large breeds as most big companies do them, if you want to change from the Chudleys. Some vets "push" certain products like Hills, although its a good food its really for dogs with dietry problems. Burns Mini bites is a good food, lowish in protein and very good quality. Good luck with your puppy, I have just got a long awaited lab - they're great.
