Lil, it differs with each breed, the best way is to ask a breed club and they will tell you what is required before you will be entered onto the various lists. But as a guide, some were between 5 & 10 years in the breed, success in the ring and /or breeding pups who have success in the ring. Taking and passing the 2 KC exams and also the breed judging seminar exam. Having experiance of judging a certain number of dogs whilst on the C list, and performing to the satisfaction of your peers. To judge at a higher level has different criteria but I guess that is not what you wish to know.

Commitment to use up a great deal of spare time (seminars, shows, studying books and standards), deep pockets (it costs to travel, buy books, attend seminars, shows etc.), blind motivation (in the time it takes to award CC's you could qualify to be a barrister, vet or brain surgeon - and get well paid), a very thick skin, and lastly to know that when you've done all this, when you judge you will have a few people happy and others with varying degrees of disappointment and you will never be right.
