Hi, My 15 week old Lab pup has been bought up on Beta Puppy, which i have continued to feed him. This is soaked for a couple of hours before given to him. Can this be fed as a solid food? If so, at what age? Think Beta Puppy maybe giving him a bit of a loose tummy. Will wait a couple of days to see if it gets any better. If not, will think about changing him over to Pedigree Chum for puppies. Does anybody have any comments? Thanks Sue

hi
you can fed your pup the beta dry you may find that this will stop the looseness, i personally dont like p/chum food, but make sure on whatever you decide to use you change it gradually.
my lab started off on beta and was then changed on to james wellbelloved, this she ate till she had pups, she went off the james wellbeloved and is now eating arden grange.
my sprocker pup went off beta pup not long after coming home and now eats arden grange with relish.

I have a 10 week old puppy that is fed Beta, he has been haveing it dry since he was 6 weeks old, we mix it with about a 1/3rd of a carton of Nature diet, and we have not trouble with his tummy.

thanks Tanya, I'm coming to the end of the Beta puppy food, so will make the change over soon (gradually). I think he's going off the Beta puppy, so it's an ideal time to change anyway. I'm going to try P'chum, as my parents had 2 labs when I was growing up, and they loved it!. If he doesn't get on with it, I'll try another brand. Can I ask why you don't like it? i.e. is there anything I should know? Sue

We changed Charlie from purina to pedigree puppy when he was a tiddler - did not agree with him at all! Until we changed his food again (to naturediet, which he loves), we thought we just had a very active puppy. Then we took him to puppy classes, and we were quite surprised to discover he was the bounciest puppy there (especially considering he was a lhasa in a class with a cocker, a boxer, and a staff! ). We also found that he was forever scratching, and although most lhasa's have quite 'teary' eyes, his were constantly gunked up; he also very really had a solid poop, which he had the delightful habit of munching it unless we were there to swoop it up immediately.

Puppy trainer recommended that we tried a more 'natural' type of food, so we swopped to naturediet and found that we actually now had a chirpy (rather than manic!) puppy, the scratching stopped almost altogether (apart from when he's been bitten by summat when rooting in the woods  ) , and we are cleaning his eyes once a day rather than five or six times. Also, he now has 'normal' poops, and prefers dog biscuits to doings as a treat ;)

Obviously every dog is different, and some foods agree with some more than others, but we've also found that our experiences seem to reflect those of other owners. Charlie is now fed on Naturediet, with Burns either as a mixer, or for a bit of variety, and he loves both! :)

Harvey is one hell of a lively puppy! He is a maniac! He tears around the house like you wouldn't believe. I know every puppy has a 'mad half hour' but this goes on for hours! He also itches and nibbles quite a lot, mainly his hind legs. I hope this will stop or at least ease off when I change his food over. I'm sure it will just be a case of trail and error until we get him on the food thats right for him. thanks for replying!

I agree with Majix. I am owned by 2 Staffies (and 3 cats) and I feed Nature Diet. My eldest Staffie Tessa is 11yrs old and Charlie 10mths and they both love it. I only started feeding it 26th March and the change in Tessa after only 4wks was unbelivable. She suffers badly with Osteoarthitis and has been on Metacam for about 6mths and seemed to just want to laze her days away. After 1mth on Nature Diet she was starting to get that Staffie smile back and her eyes lost that dull look.
I started Charlie on it 17th April and if they had a cat food my 3 boys would also be on it. I did enquire and there might be a cat version next year.
Tessa has been on it now for 3mths and she's like a different dog. She plays fetch again and looks forward to playtime now. I feed her a mix of Nature Diet, veggies and one scoop of Chudleys Mobility Mix (someone on this message board recomended it) started this 8th April. The best news is she now only has Metacam 1day per week.
They say 'you are what you eat' well in Tessa's case this is very true. I am so glad I found this food and so is Tessa and Charlie. After the change in Tessa I couldn't even think of feeding him anything else. Charlie is 10mths, weighs 20.8kilos and is just full of muscle and loves life and running after his ball
I want to stress that I am in no way connected to Nature Diet. I'm just a very happy owner of 2 very happy Staffies whose Mom has for them anyway, got their diet right. Deirdre
