hi ive just been to look at a litter of lab pups kc registered the father is hip scored 5/3 eyes clear and upto date but the mother isnt hip scored or eye tested shes a working dog i asked the owner about her and he said that she never had any problems my question is should i take a change and get one of these pups or should i wait and look for a litter where both parents have been tested

Hi Bridgetlabs

The fact that she hasn't shown any problems is not guarantee that she doesn't have any - as you are probably aware. My oldest dog came from well scored parents yet has appalling hips. It can happen.

I would wait for a litter from tested parents, just for a little more peace of mind. But thats just my opinion as I am in favour of trying to improve the gene pool by keeping hip scores down

Good luck with whatever you do

Hi BridgetLabs

Did they say why they had bred with that particular bitch and why she hadn't had any of the tests ? Just because she is a working dog isn't an excuse not to get the tests done !

I would wait for another litter to come along to be on the safe side.

hi they didnt say why they bred from her but they did say this was her second litter and they kept a pup from the first and it was ok and they plan to keep a pup back from this litter as well. they said her perents were both hip scored and both the scores were low i think her mum was 4/4 and her dad was 4/3 . they did have a small block of kennels in the back garden theyed got a couple more labs and a some springer spaniels they were all working dogs
