hi
ive been able to start walking my cocker spaniel puppy at last!
she has so much energy that i think she could just walk all day but ive heard that walking too much in their first year can damage their bones so how much should she be walking roughly? i take her out twice a day and it lasts for about 60 minutes each time because we have to stop so often for people to pat her!

Kaycee - How old is your puppy - from what you say quite young - 2hours walking a day IS too much - a couple of ten minute strolls to get used to the lead etc is sufficient for the first few weeks gradually building up over time to normal walking at around 12 months of age. A puppy gets enough exercise running around the house and garden. Too much can damage their growth plates and cause long term damage. Do socialise - but think of other ways to do it - carry her to the parl maybe.

I too am a bit unsure how far to walk my puppy. Dylan (Golden Retriever) will be four months old on Sunday. Today we went to the park and wandered for about an hour. He paddled in the river, stopped to watch the ducks and geese, was stroked by lots of people and charged through the tall grass. I guess we walked about a kilometre. He gave no sign of being tired - indeed he didn't even go to sleep when we got back home (as he used to do after every outing). The walk was almost entirely on grass, which is better than road walking, isn't it? By reading yours and Lel's posts, this sounds too much. Am I overdoing it?
Thanks,
Sarah
