I am just about to get aTibetan Terrier puppy, does anyone know the best books for
A) grooming
B) Training ?
I would love to show if he decides he would enjoy it but I am a complete novice and feel I would completely show myself up if I don't read the correct material.

I know nearer the time you would all give the best advice and I would owe lots to you all, as I have seen loads to others. I think it's really sweet and hope one day I could be as helpful.

Best advice you could get as a beginner would probably come from your pups breeder. They will have a vested interest in seeing the pup is properly trained and groomed, and will be able to point you in the right direction for books etc. Only once had to 'do" a TT - hope you are getting your blow drying arm muscled up! They make American Cockers easy by comparison:)

We used to have a lovely 'dulux' dog, boy grooming that was a daily marathon!

I have been told that a tt is not quite so bad, if that's true or not I'm not to sure.

The worst time for grooming is when they are changing from puppy to adult coat and then they need to be done every day.And i don't mean just top coat brushed ,it's down to the skin and then followed by a comb to make sure it's done thoroughly. If you get your baby used to being brushed from a very early age you won't have a problem with grooming and don't forget about the ears (Inside i mean)Make sure you get puppy used to having the hair removed.

I also have a TT, and one of the best books for grooming is by Lesley Cooper and is available via the TT association. Go to www.the-tta.org.uk, and then go into merchandise and its in there, available from Krista Guziolek for £4.95
Good general TT books are ones by Juliette Cunliffe (British), Anne Keleman (American) and 'Your guide to the Tibetan Terrier' by Mrs. Emmy Manuel. Hope these are some help to you.
What breeding is your puppy? Where did you get him/her from?

Thanks for all the good tips, the breeder has now told me that you can't get there hips tested until they are a year old, does this mean I couldn't show her until then?

She came from Portsmouth but the litter is only being registered this week so perhaps that explains why nobody knows about them. The breeder also said that she had all of the puppies booked in principle but while we were there trying to choose between 2 boys that looked identical the lady who booked the only girl in the litter cancelled so we came away having booked the girlie.

Showing and Health Schemes are not dependant on each other. You can show a puppy from six weeks of age. for Eye diseases that are not congenital, and Hip and Elbow scoring dogs should be 12 months or over.

If you are in USA then it is two years old for the skeletal tests.

oops did mean six months. They can be shown from there and four months in some countries.
