Topic Dog Boards / Feeding / Raw bones ok for 9 week dobe puppy?
- By Jo19 [gb] Date 16.06.03 09:25 UTC
After seeing Cam's delight when he pinched another dobe's marrow bone yesterday (sorry Taz!) I'd like to get him one for an occasional treat. However - I'm also going to show him, and I've seen a couple of posts on this site that suggest it could damage his teeth (??). I don't really understand why this is - after all, if he's not chewing on a bone he's going to be chewing on something else. Are there any breeders on this site that show but are happy to give their young pups bones?

I was thinking of getting him a small marrow bone.

Thanks

Sam - probably a stupid question but Marrow bones - are these from the butcher or do you have to get them else where?

My breeder told me to get a raw marrowbone and Charlie(14 wk Boxer)loves it.He chewed it for about 3 hours the day I gave it to him.He wants to chew that more than anything else-even shoes!

We got kujoe this first marrow bone on sunday, really in desperation to stop him from chewing everything else, but he really enjoed it. I have let pups have marrow bones before and they have never come to any harm, but they can cause tummy upsets in some pups.

Hi Jo

I am quite happy giving young pups marrow bones but don't give them to my adults as I had one bitch eat one and the shards excoriated her intestine and I very nearly lost her. Most dogs don't actually eat the bones just knaw on them but I just won't risk this.

All my dogs, including any pups in the process of weaning get raw bones such as those in breast of lamb and raw chicken though.

I got lovely big raw bones from the butcher for the pups when they were nearly 7 wks old and boy did they love them!!!!!! Mum kept jumping into the puppy pen and taking the largest bone out for herself !!!1
