I met a woman when I was walking my dogs and she said my gsd needed to lose a few pounds. He currently weighs 36kg, is quite a stocky dog with very thick legs which makes me think he really is big boned. I can just feel his ribs and the base of tail bone but I can't see them (he has an enormous coat). He gets loads of exercise but I still think he could do with a bit of weight loss. I have changed him to Chudleys Lite (he was on sensitive before) and his meat to pedigree light tins. He gets 200gms of dry in the morning and 200gms dry plus half a tin of meat in the evening. This is a reduced ration because the weather is so hot and so he doesn't run about as much. Does this sound ok? I didn't think he was fat but looking at him, it's really hard to tell... any advice?

If you can feel his ribs he's ok :) Not all dogs have a streamlined shape.
Hard to tell on what you are feeding as dogs like people have different metabolic rates. Some burn it off quicker than others. From what you've posted he sounds fine as he is.

I would say, as long as you can feel his ribs, he's not overweight,
and as long as he's healthy and happy, keep him on the diet he's on now.
